You would find their inventory empty, if you wish to trade with them. Merchants will reset after 2 days, but not if you are hanging around. To reset this chest you will have to leave the area for 2 days. I swear to God there used to be a "hidden" chest outside whiterun near the khajit caravan. It wasn't hidden very well cause I remember a corner of the chest clipped through the ground looking like a rock. I don’t think the unofficial patch should have made it inaccessible. It should have just stopped the items from respawning.
